In the industry of journalism and communication, global ethics is a standard held by individuals around the world to uphold human express rights. The term "global ethic" refers to set of global principles or moral values that are shared by different faiths and cultures around the world. The goal is to officialize the term "global ethic," which will shape the same mindset and values as more than a whole country, but a whole world. 

What are global media ethics?

Global media ethics targets the development of a comprehensive set of principles and standards for the practice of journalism in this age of global news media. New forms of communication are reshaping the delivery of news through video and images all over the globe with unprecedented speed and varying degrees of control. 

The idea of this code of ethics is to reform the global media system in order to eliminate inequalities through media technology. Because of these principles, journalists and communicators are striving towards media protection rights, where they advocate global social justice. 

Why are global media ethics important? 

Simply, global media ethics will help avoid fake news. From a journalist, there is a strong want and demand for vulnerability and truth. Can you imagine trying to make an entire world honest? Global media ethics highlights the importance of these moral values and the need to rid misinformation and disinformation. In doing so, we are forming trust and reliability from one another across the country. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many were surveyed on seeing fake news about the pandemic. 26% of Americans are undoubtedly positive that they know fake news when they see it, 67% of Americans who used to believe fake news when they saw it have new found confusion, and 10% of Americans surveyed that they purposefully share fake news. Now imagine these results, but worldwide. Why is global media ethics important? You do the math. 

"The Importance of Ethics in Journalism," states "whether a journalist is covering sporting events, entertainment news, the stock market, or current events, they have a collective responsibility to abide by a code of ethic to avoid conflicts of interest that may compromise their integrity or impartiality." This code of ethics is what journalists are trying to expand beyond the country that generally upholds these ethics--the countries that occasionally uphold them. This is a global standard--a global mindset if you will, that should be upheld. Why? It's just ethical. 

Using new forms of news via media, individuals are able to communicate across the world and shape a collective perspective on inequalities and moral values. Journalists continue to apply global media ethics through social media posts, online commentary, etc. One day, "global media ethics" will have more articles because of its importance.
